What is videoconferencing?
Videoconferencing enables you to see, hear, speak, as well
as share documents and other information with customers, suppliers,
business associates, employees in various locations in a real-time
meeting environment. A typical PROXIMITY room contains two
large screen TV monitors. In one monitor you see and hear
the "far side." The second monitor is used to see
what you are sending to the other site or sites.
Most PROXIMITY rooms are equipped with document cameras so
that you can share spreadsheets, contracts, slides, transparencies
and other documents with the far side. Optional equipment
includes VCR's for taping the conference, scan converters
which allow output from your computer to be displayed in the
second monitor and electronic white boards for display and
transmitting works in progress.

What is Multi-point Videoconferencing?
Think of multi-point videoconferencing as the videoconferencing
equivalent of a telephone conference call. With a multi-point
videoconference, as many sites as you require can participate
in a multi-person, multi-location, multi-presentation meeting.
There are three different ways of displaying your multi-point
videoconference. You can:
- Show all sites simultaneously in a windows format.
- Show only the site where a participant is currently speaking.
- Actively manage your videoconference with an operator
who will change the video image from location to location
when appropriate.
Regardless of the method chosen, audio from all sites will
be shared at all times, just like a telephone conference
call.
Whether you need to communicate with 3 sites or 60, let Proximity
arrange your next multi-location meeting with a multi-point
videoconference.

How much does videoconferencing cost?
There are four components which make up videoconferencing
pricing: the rental of the videoconferencing facility, the
scheduling fee, the telecommunications charges and the optional
equipment and services.
Videoconferencing Room Rental
In the US, a typical room, accommodating up to 6 people costs
$175-$250 per hour during normal business hours. International
rooms cost $250 per hour and up.
Scheduling Fee
Scheduling fee is a flat $50 per room, per conference.
Telecommunications Charges
You only pay telecommunications charges when the room you
are renting places the telephone call to the far side room.
For a 384 kbps call, which gives near full motion video,
telecom charges in the US are $120 per hour. For a 128 Kbps
Call, which has a lower video and audio quality, telecom
costs $40 per hour. Multipoint and international call pricing
varies.
Optional Charges
Computer interface, electronic white boards, flip charts,
additional lighting and other audio visual equipment are
available at additional charge. Refreshments are available
at many locations, as are other business services.
